Deck & Front Entrance Patio Project – Ancaster, Ontario
For this Ancaster landscaping project, the homeowner wanted better access along the side of the home, safer entry points at multiple doors, and a more usable space around the hot tub. They also needed a layout that functioned year round, helped reduce snow buildup at doorways, and created a clearer connection between the garage and the backyard.
Project Highlights
Custom Deck Design & Construction –
To improve access to multiple doors and create a more practical outdoor layout, we designed and built a continuous deck system that connects the side door, two rear doors, and the backyard:

- Built a long, narrow deck catwalk to replace the need for three separate decks and stair sets.
- Positioned the deck one step below each doorway to help keep snow and water away from the home during winter.
- Wrapped the deck around the existing hot tub, maintaining access while adding railing and a gate to meet code requirements.
The deck was constructed with longevity and future use in mind:

- Pressure treated framing and decking for durability and structural strength.
- Joist tape installed on all framing to extend the life of the deck.
- Tall corner posts added to allow for hanging flowers and string lighting in the future.
Front Entrance Patio & Walkway Installation –
The homeowner also wanted a front entrance that tied the garage, breezeway, and backyard together into one cohesive flow. We designed and installed a new interlock patio and step system that integrates cleanly with both the garage foundation and rear deck:

- Pavers: Unilock Copthorne in a three-colour blend with grey tones, laid in a linear pattern for a weathered, country-style look.
- Steps: Permacon Mega Melville Plus in Amber Beige, chosen to complement the garage doors and home exterior.
- Border Detail: A soldier course in the interior colour with a double linear black border to frame the patio.
- Front Door Landing: Installed in a herringbone pattern for added visual interest.
Base Preparation & Structural Support –
To ensure long-term performance, the patio was built on an open-graded base system:

- 3/4" clear stone base compacted in two 6-inch lifts.
- Designed for maximum strength and drainage, reducing the risk of settlement over time.
The Final Result
The finished project provides a connected, easy-to-navigate outdoor layout that works year round. The custom deck improves access to multiple doors and the hot tub, while the front entrance patio creates a clear, welcoming connection between the garage, breezeway, and backyard. Sean was the right choice. He came in at budget, and finished two days earlier than quoted. He and the team were at our house every day until the project was done. The project consisted of a new fence, and two layered deck to an above ground pool. He and the team were a welcomed sight every day. Our neighbours had Square Leaf Landscaping Company come today to completely redo their frontage. The workers arrived promptly at 7:30 a.m. this morning and began the proceedings. Heat and air quality warnings were issued for the city by Environment Canada, mainly due to summer climate change and the wildfires burning in Northern Ontario. The men from this company set to work immediately and have worked there all day in these extremely difficult conditions. As I type, they are still there, finishing today’s business. They never once took a sustained break that we noticed. They worked diligently and very hard all of this stifling summer day. They used machines, but the noise was subdued and not bothersome; they made, of course, some dust and debris, but cleaned up as they worked. They demonstrated extreme professionalism and obvious dedication to the job at hand. We asked if they would remove a garden rock from our place that we wished to dispose of, as they had other rocks to deal with in the course of their landscaping. Sean, the owner, kindly agreed to do this. We consider this company the epitome of professionalism, dedication, courtesy and kindness. Wewould most definitely recommend them based on what we saw transpire today.
